if you encounter this error when trying to install sql server 2008 1.Install visual Studio 2008 Sp1 and click “re run” 2.There is a registry trick to overcome this error Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS\Servicing\9.0 rename 9.0 to 9.0old then click “re run”  ,it will solve the problem,but better to install visual studio 2008 SP1
